Recklessness
My rule in life, think before you act. The same thing applies in chess, before you move, you make sure that it is beneficial, make sure no plunder will occur and make sure you can get something good out of it.
Today, I think I just escaped the jaws of death. I was crossing Taft Avenue, going to the Pedro Gil LRT station, right after a match against JRU. I was certain that the traffic light just turned red, which is why I crossed. Then, a speeding taxi from nowhere, had this fun idea of hitting someone crossing the street. Unfortunatley, that someone was me. The speeding taxi nearly hit me, as I was able to step back very quickly, escaping the jaws of death, just by a little less than a second. Lucky break for me. But what was more luck is that I almost slipped as I avoided that taxi, if I did slip, what could have been my fate? Just luck I guess, I barley missed the taxi and escaped death by a hair.
And the fate of the LSGH NCAA Chess team? Well, the msot we can muster is 2ndd place, provided we sweep San Sebastian and PCU, and 4th place is well within reach. We just need to win at least 3 games every chance we get. We started today when all of us had optimistic views of a sweep against JRU, but unfortunatley, it wasnt ment to be as AJ Nuestro, our board 4, lost the game. I cannot stop thinking about it, how can AJ, who is in board 4 (Board 4 in chess is suppose to be the easiest board, and board 1 as the hardest) lose to JRU, and to think, JRU is down there. 6th out of 7 teams. And as I saw the game, one mistake killed him. Maybe I played, we could have swept them. But I lost to JRU in the first round as well... HEY! I play Board 1, thats good enough excuse. LSGH puts the best in boards 2 and 3 so that its an almost assured victory in our part. Today our best players were placed in board 1 and 2, giving me time to rest and actually study more techniques in chess.
So I guess I can say that because of the recklessness of that taxi driver, it almost cost me my life. I dont think I was reckless, the light was in red. I can even run around in circles in the middle of the street if I wanted too XD
I took the LRT to the MRT Station then went to Shangirla. Dropped by Radio.. something to see if they had the repackaged Sponge Cola album, then I checked Tower Record, both didnt have. So I went to National Bookstore to find an interesting book to buy, then remembered I havnt even finished the Phantom of the Opera book I bought in Australia last summer! demn..
Dad arrived home after a weeklong China meeting. Mom left for Tagaytay jsut a few mins before I arrived home from PCU. We ate out in Metrowalk, dont feel so good right now..
Before I end, I just wanna share this insight I have been thinking about for the past couple of weeks...

Life is like a game of chess. You need to develop your pieces so that you will be stronger, position counts, so development needs to always be straightforward, in the cetner, not at the side. You make a mistake, you can never take it back. And once there is a plunder, youre dead. Once you checkmate your opponent, the difficulties of life, you win, but once you opponent chekmates you, your dead....
