Value of a second

Sometimes we underestimate time. In reality, everything comes from a second. And every little thing we do is in that second passes by just once and is encrypted in a little book called history. What I value most about a second, is the things that can happen in just one second. A matter of life or death, success or failure all hangs in the balance of what happens in one second.

This afternoon we had our chess practice. Nothing much happened. A number of costly errors made me lose some games, the reason why I was too preoocupied with the ongoing DLSU vs UE game at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Once pracitice ended, I went up to the lobby and I see Ms Yatco. The usual hello and how are you stuff exchanged. But I just couldnt keep my mind out of that DLSU vs UE game. Even though coach was already talking to her, even though my friends were passing by, my hand was stuck to my phone, patiently waiting for the UAAP reply on the outcome of the game.

And the climax, mom texted me that DLSU was up by 6 in the final 34 seconds. This messege gave me breathing room, allowing me to say hi to some friends and showing Coach my game against San Sebastian, but, it isnt over..

In a matter of seconds, everyone went home and im left alone with my cellphone. Mom texts me:

We lost, 74-72

At that instant, time froze. I couldnt imagine, how we were up by 6, lose at the end. But, fate is not always cruel. In one second, Cholo Villuaneva hit a lay up to tie the ball game. As mom texted me, I just wanted to jump up and down and shout. Although, I had the presence of mind to remember I was walking to 7-11 already.

And finally, overtime, the silence in the car a while ago can tell so much how me and dad were scared of the outcome. In the silence, you can hear my heart beating so fast it was like a train rushing to its destination. The silence brok after a phonecall by my mom, saying DLSU was up by 3 in the last one min. I sat down, and told dad about it, finally, the silence was over. We started exchanging ideas on how La Salle can win this game. 5 mins later, I recieved a call saying La Salle won! I sat down looking out uttering the words "Thank you God"

La Salle won, thanks to 1 second. We only needed one second to secure the win and thanks to Cholo Villuaneva's lay-up, we took it, in one second...

Thats all La Salle needed, one second.

P.S.
Its the "Ber" months already. And as early as today, someone has already greeted me a merry christmas Oo; Hint: He speaks english when he is trying to insult someone, most of the time he speaks tagalog
