The Zephyr
As I reached the top of the 35 floor condomenium, the gentle west wind hit me softly, as if it was a good omen. It was hard to tell, but the zephyr made the anxiety go away. This afternoon we were priveleged enough to audition for the ICA Battle of the Bands which will be heald during their fair late this year. We practiced for 2 fridays for 2 weeks, wherin we would sacrifice our normal friday study night for the band, and most importantly, for each other.
As I looked to the left, there were a lot of Xavierians, and to the right, Ateneans. Im not much into discrimating but we were one green spec in the sea of blue. Like a green light in a blue valley, a single lamp during the dark night. I was not surprised at all. We were all nervous before the competition, as this was the first time we actually auditioned. Me, Jaco and Ogie went to the 34th floor to practice The Zephyr Song and Mr. Clay which we will be performing in a while. It went well, Jaco corrected some stuff in terms of strumming, chords and stuff.
Finally, it was our turn. I was nervous, walking towards the lone amplifier at the end of the room. I was ready, Jaco was ready, Archie was ready, Vince was ready.. oh but wait! Where is the microphone? There was no amplifier fo the microphone, and we had to borrow from another band. In exchange, we let them play ahead of us.
Fly Away on my Zephyr... I feel it more then ever... and in this perfect wheather... we'll find a place together (Red Hot Chili Peppers) The song was perfect, no mistakes and such, it was so nice, to think we were so pessimistic about our chances. Then during Mr. Clay, we had a few mistakes, but not that much. I know there are a lot more better bands out there, but if ever we get in, Im gonna scream! Phew..
And this all came through hard practice and dedication. I guess these are other things that can bring you places..
And as I walked towards the elevator, the gentle west wind kissed me softly again, maybe another good omen. Thank you Zephyr.
