Media Blitz!
DISCLAIMER: You may find something here very offensive, be cautious as you go on.
It has been a good 3 days since we relinquished our title to FEU. Lasallians have graciously accepted defeat and have decided to move on. But, some things cannot be removed from our hearts and minds. Now, its not how Arwind made the tip-in during game one, its not how Mark Isip made the shot underneath and that crucial free-throw, nor is it how he blocked Cabatu's potential game winning three point shot. But its how the FEU Crowd finished the game.
Im sure a lot of you would not know these events, but I was there and so were a lot of Lasallians in the game, but I will try to give my views about what they did. After the buzzer sounded, FEU has already won and the FEU gallery errupted into a frenzy. No surprise there, then suddenly 1 peso coins started flying, hitting so many DLSU supporters. After that, half-filled cups were thrown at us and debris as well, like pop-corn and chips. Topping it off is that tear-gas thrown right in the middle of the upper b crowd (I was there mind you). Surprising isnt it? Then again, what else would you expect?
Points to be taken, tear gas was thrown, how the hell was that able to get through the "security" of Araneta? Security in the Philippines means checking the top most layer of the bag and ignoring where the person hides the important stuff, inside the bag. And not so many people know about it and its because the media has not covered it. Then again, would you expect the media to be siding with La Salle? After that front page with Salgado? Heck, they even featured a article on LA, 1 half of a page jsut for LA. Yet, not even 1/8 of a page for that tear-gas incident. Not even 1/4 of a page for the King Archer, Joseph Yeo *biased*. Media Blitz, Pro-Ateneo media finding ways to degrade La Salle. Discrimination at its finest!
The Arana dance and the mid-court photoshoot, admittedly should not have been done, yet this did not hurt anyone physically, its in the game! Taunting, its a La Salle - Ateneo rivalry, it can never be avoided. The Salgado incident is a lot different, as only one person was really hurt, and that is Salgado. Media Blitz on him, and the banning for life by the UAAP. Was Arwind hurt? I dont think so, he still played during the 2nd game.
But, throwing coins, half-filled cups, pop corn and unleashing tear gas is attack on the crowd, wherin not only one peson is involved but at least a 100 people! Yet, no media blitz on this so called act-of-terrorism.
Wait, did La Salle ever expect a fair treatment from the media? I dont think so. And thats the problem with out country right now, we can never let personal issues aside and make a little sacrifice. Its always "me", "myself" and "I" in the Philippines, never about "us" and "we". We are too self-centered to expose the truth, wherin you or someone close to you will benefit from your actions. Sacrifice is not eveidnet in the Philippines, once we learn how to work not for ourselevs but for others, then I can say we have over achieved. We are too "one-sided" to see that. That man for others crap is nothing, and its evident in our political scene. Where do most politicans come from?
