A multi-titled post
Don’t judge a book by its cover
The cliché line, it’s heard almost everywhere you go, choosing food at a restaurant, shopping for clothes or necessities and the most common of all, judging people. Although it is constantly preached, even the preachers end up falling short of this really simple line.
Can you tell a person is happy just because he is smiling? Can you tell a person is sad just because he is frowning? No you can’t. I tell you I can always smile even though I am surrounded by boundless problems. I can smile even if the sky starts to collapse on us. I can smile whether I am happy or sad, and that my friends is human nature. We tend to pretend to be something we are not and that is why we are all hypocrites one way or another. So why am I talking about this? I guess it’s because people often make rash conclusions on how I feel at the given moment. It is not given that because I am frowning something is bothering me. That is why you can never judge a person just by how he looks like, just like how you can’t judge a book by its cover. No matter how filthy or dirty the cover is, you may be surprised to see the wonders that lie inside it.
Optimism and Pessimism
My latest entry in my theme notebook was on Optimism and Pessimism. I think it was like a thesis, doing research on how to compare and contrast to different topics. I wrote on my notebook that I’m much more of a pessimist than an optimist because I don’t expect things to come up positively, but when it comes to opportunity I become a little bit more optimistic. I also stated there that as humans we are inclined to both optimism and pessimism. An optimist lives longer, but taking too many chances may risk his life. A pessimist lives shorter but a safer life. Rule freaks are pessimists, and optimists are those who don’t mind eating and joking around in the classroom. So what brought me to this topic? I tend think negatively towards a lot of things which probably explains my quiet and reserved attitude. As a pessimist, this includes me being afraid to ask someone out, afraid to be rejected perhaps or the fear of not doing things on time, because the rules will act against me.
